ATEX Classification

Hi,

Can anybody explain the specifics of following ATEX Ex marking of a field instrument:

Ex ia d IIC

Does the"d" mean that the "barrier/isolator" is included and contained within an Ex d enclosure in the field equipment?

Any answer will be appreciated

Means that it is certified for IS and flame-proof applications. Many field instruments are certified for general purpose, IS and flame-proof; therefore only 1 model # is required.

There is no barrier included or required in the instrument.

If you are going IS, a suitable barrier is required in the non-classified area. Check the data sheet and manual for the instrument.

I think, "Ex ia d IIC" is a dual certified equipment.

Ex: Explosion Protection
ia: Intrinsic Safety protection Circuit ( Transmitter Circuit I.S Type)
d: Flame Proof Enclosure ( Transmitter Body or Housing)
IIC: Acetylene, Hydrogen Present in the atmosphere.
