Safety PLCs

Hello, All;

I've transitioned from a job with mega-relay logic to one with safety PLCs! Any suggestions as to good literature to bring me up to speed on how these work?

Thanks for the response/support....

Unfortunately, there isn't much available. The best resource is going to be the literature provided by the safety PLC manufacturer. I've primarily used the Allen-Bradley GuardLogix PLC, which has a 150 page manual that's pretty good. Presumably other manufacturers have similar resources.

My own experience with safety PLCs is that the transition from hard-wired safety to software is only slightly more complicated than the transition from traditional hard-wired circuits to ladder logic. So if you know PLCs and are familiar with safety circuits, combining the two shouldn't be too difficult.

What safety PLC's do you have at work? The manufacturer will have hardware and implementation documentation as well as training courses.

You also might want to survey the different manufacturers to see what type of systems they have.

For example, Triconex has the Tricon and Trident TMR 2oo3 systems; and Rockwell has acquired the TMR safety systems from ACS Triplex.
